Apple update
Hello Rhodes scholars,
Today Apple clarified that use of frameworks (a category which Rhomobile invented two years ago with the Rhodes framework) is completely acceptable. The only thing that an app can’t do is download code on the fly. Rhodes has always taken extra steps (such as disallowing “eval”) to make this very difficult to do.
We were pleased that Apple even took the step of calling us directly to give us this news. To some extent this is anticlimactic because Rhodes apps have never been rejected, even after the proposed iPhone 4 Terms of Service were introduced. Once iPhone 4.0 was released and Rhodes apps continued to be accepted this issue essentially went away with customers.
Nevertheless this is still great news. And it’s great to see Apple listening to their customers and developers and being responsive for the good of the Apple community at large.
What a great week to be a Rhodes developer! RhoSync Objective C support, Rhodes 2.1 with JQTouch and barcode, RhoHub 2.0 and, now, permanent validation from Apple! As a final note we are launching our Enterprise App showcase of webinars showing great community built apps starting tomorrow morning at 9am PST. We hope to see you there!
